Understand the Ballot Language and $0 Tax Rate Increase to Alvarado ISD Voters
Due to a new state law since the last AISD bond election, all school bonds in Texas must include this sentence on their bond ballots: “This is a property tax increase.” However, there will be no increase to the Alvarado ISD tax rate as a result of this election. The I&S rate is currently at $0.50 and, by law, is capped at $0.50.
As a school district, if we had the option to legally change the ballot language to make it more accurate, we would say: This bond will extend the debt payments of the district. We understand the state-required language can be confusing, and we want to reassure voters that the tax rate will not increase whether residents vote to pass or fail the May 2022 bond election.
