Facilities Steering Committee
Development of the May 2022 bond recommendation involved an in-depth process of information gathering, research and community input.
The Alvarado ISD Board of Trustees is committed to the district’s mission of inspiring and empowering learners. The Board also has made a commitment to provide time and resources to each other, students, teachers, parents and community. This commitment, in conjunction with the district’s proactive approach to proactively plan for the district’s future, led the district to convene a Facilities Steering Committee (FSC) in the fall of 2021.
The FSC was charged to consider the educational needs of all students and to develop recommendations that align with the district’s mission, vision and goals. Committee members had the responsibility of representing the entire community, its values and perceptions as they assessed and prioritized the district’s current and long-term facility needs. In addition to studying the needs of the district, the Facilities Steering Committee analyzed student enrollment projections, financial data, and toured schools in Alvarado ISD.
Upon completion of their analysis, members reached a unanimous consensus on a recommendation to continue the planned grade realignment, replace North Elementary, convert the Intermediate to South, expand Lillian, add a gym, and repair the baseball and softball fields. Representatives from the FSC made this recommendation to the Board of Trustees in December 2021 before the Board voted unanimously to call an election.
